As a girl, Elizabeth Diaz of going to school, but was told, “Boys are students. Girls tend livestock.” Without an education, she became a single mother, herding alpaca to take care of her son. But with the help of Heifer Peru, Elizabeth turned experience into opportunity: she formed a handicraft association to sell knit wares at local markets. She is now a leader in her community, sharing her skills and knowledge with other women and advocating for girls’ education.
